“Up in the sky?” “Up in the sky…..”

Infinite skills create miracles
Warrior spiritual — above the clouds
reigning/raining down, holdin it down”

Happy Passover everybody or Happy Pesach and I hope everybody has a Good Friday and good Easter this weekend.
Well….This little sketch is actually a smaller part of a larger sketch that I have been working on. Hopefully the rest turns out ok. I thought this part looked cool so I scanned it in to show you. I picture this guy much like the character Dr. Parnassus in Dr. Parnassus’s Imaginarium (Go see it!). This guru, floating on this little mysterious piece of earth sits quietly contemplating the meaning of the universe. Hope you like it.
Anyways I’ve been hoping to start a discussion in my last post. So if missed it or you want to check it out and join in……..Click Here
Also if you haven’t heard a little bit of news, Guru the legendary rapper of Gang Starr suffered a heart attack and fell into a comma a few weeks ago. Apparently, he is now in a stable condition. He is being pretty quiet about what happened. He is quoted as saying, “That’s something I don’t want to talk about. I don’t want to talk about the past. The past is the past,” Guru said, according to the press release. “It is what it is. It was great, but that was then and this is now.” A statement and a piece of advice….Very guru of him.

And Now Here is the song Above the Clouds from the Album Moment of Truth by Guru and Dj Premier (feat. Inspectah Deck)
Love it!

It’s mine. It’s twisted. It’s art for its own sake. I draw things as I see it on paper and I draw things as they are in my minds eye. It’s sorta of a Magical Realism piece. There’s no need to straighten anything out just entangle my intertwine.
I’ll let you interpret the rest and allow you to see whatever you see. I’ve told you too much already, but a penny for YOUR thoughts.
“Space flights are merely an escape, a fleeing away from oneself, because it is easier to go to Mars or to the moon than it is to penetrate one’s own being” ~ Carl Jung
What reminds you the most of home? Maybe it’s smell? Anybody by chance, know what Mars smells like?
The fact is that once you leave home, often there is no going back. It is funny how far the heart drifts in the great expanse. You gotta be that rollin’ stone and put on that smilin’ face. Like the Joker said, “Why so serious?” Speaking of which where did I put my happy face pin? I think I lost mine in the theaters watching the Watchmen.
Ralph’s happy face emblazoned on his suit, I envisioned as a kind of an overly optimistic and happy A.I. that always puts a positive spin on any dire event in a hostile universe. I was thinking along the lines of a high-tech version of Wilson from the movie Cast Away. Pardon me on my third popular movie reference, but I still got one more for y’ah.
They say Forest Gump invented the smiley face or so Robert Zemeckis would have you believe, but it is totally intergalactic and yes, I just threw that out there. Come to think of it, Carl Jung must have totally taken over a small corner of my brain since he also said something about explaining the “symbol” (i.e. retro smiley face) as if you were a man from Mars.
Hope you like the new sketch. I drew it back at my old home. It kept me company on a real late night contemplating how things are never the same and yet there’s no place like home. Ohmmmmmmm…… why don’t you meditate on a little Bob Dylan now……
E.T. Phone Home:
You still here? Bless your heart! I’ve been thinking about tweeting or putting out facebook status updates with little iPhone snap shots of process work. I was even meaning to put this up to tease this post. Here’s the test and don’t forget to connect with me on twitter @SimianZ for future peaks of Martians and otherwise.
This creature is an alien in the spirit of that benevolent trickster spirit of Celtic tradition. He bellows that alien musical language and dares us lesser beings to understand his wise harmony. I know you all remember the melody from Close Encounter of the Third Kind.
I got sick over the weekend and in half delirious state watched a series movies including Harvey. Yes, I know this isn’t exactly Jimmy Stewart’s 6 foot 3 and 1/2 inch white rabbit Harvey, but then again who knows? The Pooka is a shape-shifter after all: to some a white rabbit and to others a trans-dimensional hopping goblin. Maybe we should check a dictionary…

“At the precipice, we change.” ~ The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
This painting reflects on a person on the edge who is reaching out into his vision without fear. I wanted to create the impression that the figure at the precipice could literally walk off into the spiraling tunnel of light.
The painting is acrylic and is painted on wood. Wood affords a smoother texture and I enjoy an occasional change of pace from canvas. It is also neat how the wood grain can sometimes come through the painting and in general I am inspired by painting on a more natural and unprocessed surface.
