“Shocked and amazed at the wonders of necroflesh? You’re not alone. For a limited time only, you too can have this handsome epidermis for the eensy price of your soul and a buttload of pain.” ~ Clown in Spawn (1997)
Being a fan of Todd McFarland’s Spawn (Jay’s Sketch of Spawn), I couldn’t help but push my carnival series forward with my interpretation of Clown.
For the uninitiated, here is a peak from HBO’s superior animated series:
Clown is one sick son of gun no doubt! He is twisted and sadistic and pretty formative in my view of clowns in general. I guess if you spend too much time in “The Shadow of the Carnival” you are bound to end up in hell.
I am not sure how this week kind of turned into space week, but very organically that trend has emerged. It started with some aliens and mean girls, briefly transitioned into a girl’s junkyard flight (not quite space, but airbound), then back to the aliens and the mean girls, and finally, one of my prior matte paintings of a sci-fi mission to Mars was salvaged from obscurity and featured as AstroArt at AstroEngine.com.
Rounding out space week, I present a piece of artwork that is near and dear to me. Today’s sketch of the day spawned from a children’s book idea I had about 6 years ago when I was still in high school. I wrote and illustrated it during my free time senior year. You might call it the product of my senioritis.
I don’t want to give away too much about how this piece fits within the context of my children’s book idea because I still plan to rework the story a bit. I love what I already have, but I still have some substantial revisions rattling around in my brain which I would need to address before I’d consider publishing it.
I’ll probably end up showing you a little bit here and there, but as of now even with this reveal, I plan to keep these cards pretty close to my vest. Some of these pieces made their way into the portfolio that got me into art school so I feel strongly that I have something here. Perhaps, with enough prodding from the Simian Nation, I’ll finally get off my ass and get it done. While my lips are sealed, feel free to hold my feet to the fire. Your support is sure to inspire.
