I’ve been working on this character for my story that I have been showing you for the last week. I’m not sure if I know how I want her to look like yet in her true form but here is a bit of my process. Today’s sketch is just an idea. There is nothing set in stone as of yet. Below are some thumbnails and another sketch. I hope adding all these extras into each post makes up for the lack of daily sketches.
This doesn’t read like a comic book. These dueling cars storyboards are read up to down in each column. Start on the first column and when finished move to the next.
Sorry, if that was confusing. I drew these out of order and just put them together in Photoshop to post when I realized that most of you will probably read this like a comic book. Well, it’s posted already the way it so deal with it. If I can spare some time at some point, I’ll try to fix it.
These storyboards are based off of Duel, Steven Spielberg’s first movie.
I hear Speilberg was only 25 when he made it. I’m going to be 25 in Febuary and thinking about this makes me feel the pressure to do something at least as cool as Duel before another orbit of the Earth around the Sun declares me 26. Now, that doesn’t mean I want to do a movie but maybe a cool graphic novel or at least an idea for a movie.
Art school will be behind me in less than a year and time is on its neverending march. If Pixar or Dreamworks or some other studio doesn’t hire me on the spot right out of school, there may be an opportunity to do something a little more personal which would have its own advantages. Well….we’ll see what happens.
Out in the hot sun over the weekend, I went out to practice some perspective drawing at the 2009 Art Center Car Classic. The theme was “By Air, Land, and Sea” and as you might imagine, it was a pretty remarkable scene.
To have such an event at my school and the opportunity to inspect and draw all these very interestingly designed cars in a familiar setting, was really pretty cool.
Check out some of these stories on the event:
When it comes to vision, only the strong survive. In my artistic universe, the Simian continues to reign supreme.
A few psychedelic colored pens furiously deployed to draw some lines and cross hatch and a head took form.
You may notice that today’s sketch is a little smaller than usual. The reason for this is that the original drawing is only about 2”X3” and while my lines were precise enough to blow up even further, I thought making it any larger would take away from the doodleyness. Doodle on my friends!

The Intelligence Cleaner Agency (ICA) has authorized me to disclose a top secret dossier from secret agent Eben 07. I have been recruited by the Agency to disclose certain top secret information over the course of the next few weeks, but for the moment I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of Mountain Trolls.
