“Tell me thy company, and I’ll tell thee what thou art.” ~ Don Quixote

The artistic tradition of Don Quixote is very rich. The above is an engraving of Don Quixote done by Gustave Dore. With disorderly, but grand notions of chivalry picked from books, you might go mad too. Probably not in a bad way.
You might know about Johnny Depp in Terry Gillian’s ill-fated production,
The Man Who Killed Don Quixote…..
Let’s never stop tilting at windmills my friends.
I know you probably wanted me say something cyberpunk bad-ass, but I just have to ask you something. I dare you to stare into her eyes and tell her, “NO, I will not buy your girl scout cookies.”
Anyway, enjoy your stay in cyberspace.
“The Monster was the best friend I ever had.” ~ Boris Karloff
How many times have I said I love monsters? Here’s the original inked goodness, but otherwise I rest on the quote above……

I have been showing some of these old pen and ink drawings. They have always been a big part of what I produced artistically.
I have spent many years in art school developing many other tools as an artist, but this is where I came from and I feel that this type of drawing does a pretty good job at reflecting my roots.
“God has given you one face, and you make yourself another.” ~ William Shakespeare
There are things we all do to manifest a reality. It is the single largest creative excecise on the planet in which every single living, breathing soul engages.
I only wish more people understood the active creative disclipline of life. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but if you haven’t imagined something and brought it into being lately it is time to rethink the way you are going through life.
Everyday you wake up and have the opportunity to create something of value and meaning. I know you didn’t think that this was the rarified air and sole domain of an artist did you?
Screw it! All you guys are artists whether you know it or not. If a visual artist is LUCKY, even a skilled one, at creating something of broad meaning and value to those other than himself, it is because it reflects to you qualities which you find valuable and meaningful in your own life. These things are inside you folks and somewhere deep down you know it.
Please don’t misunderstand me. Creating art just for yourself has no less value in itself, but I am speaking for the moment strickly from the perspective of someone who views and interprets another artist’s work
So, we are down to what does this have to do with today’s faces in ink? Today, I have made a face to show you. Tomorrow I may make another. This is not some phony outward diplay to the world, but a showing and a manifestation of something that is inside me.
My friends, I am going to tell you also to go off today to “make your face” or rather make the decision to begin to actively imagine and create your vey life. Some may be visual artists while others may be recording artists, but at the end of the day we are all life artists and make no mistake about that.
What were you doing in 2003? I have been doing a lot of character design, layouts and generally art which is designed to entertain lately and not nearly enough art for art’s sake. I am not going to sit here and judge which form of art is superior to the other, but I do know how satisfying it is to just let the creative process flow.
Back in 2003, I was graduating high school and that free flowing art is what I lived for. I had a sketchbook and pen at my hip at all times ready to see where the day’s artistic musings would lead. Yesterday, I showed off a sketch which showed a man in a Simian Suit rekindling a fire. I wanted it to signal that there was a fire within me that was still burning which needed some tending and also clarify the purpose of what might have appeared to be a random appearance of a simian style inked eagle.
Anyway, I have decided to continue down this path and get some distance on the march of Fear and Loathing Lizard Character Designs by ending the week with something a little different: something a little less constrained.
I’ll let your eyes and your mind interpret however you will today’s sketch having given it just a little bit of context based on my thought process recently. I like this pen and ink drawing on its side as I have presented it, but you might want to drag it on your desktop and flip it around from all sorts of angles. There is something which can be seen pretty much every which way.
No matter what you are doing in life there is some creative process which seeks expression and flow. I hope that you might flashback to your own moment in life when your desire to create just poured out into something. So go make it happen and decide affirmatively to follow and realize your passions in life. I know I am trying.
“The day is done, and the darkness, Falls from the wings of Night, As a feather is wafted downward, From an eagle in his flight” ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The eagle is inked, it’s time to fly…
