Ages and ages ago, I posted a graphic piece entitled “Cigar Man” which was based on General Ripper in Dr. Strangelove. You know, the guy who was all worried about his bodily fluids.
The piece is one of my favorite graphic illustrations to date and while I still think the original is bomb (no pun intended), I decided it was worth messing around with if only for my own amusement.
I debated whether I wanted to post the image of the original “Cigar Man” so that my readers could do a side by side comparison. I am curious about how many of you would actually take the step of clicking on the conveniently placed link I provided to the original work. As an experiment, I would love to get comments on which piece you preferred and why.
If I don’t get many comments, I regrettably will be forced to conclude that I have a rather lazy bunch of readers on my hands and I will error on the side of laziness in the future. Experience tells me that this is always the prudent course on the internet, but if the converse happens to be true I will be pleasantly surprised.
I leave you with the inspiring words of General Ripper himself, “In conclusion, I would like to say that . . . I have always expected the best from you, and you have never given me anything less than that. Today, the nation (The Jay Zuck Simian Nation) is counting on us.”

Dammit! You guilted me into leaving a comment. You’re good!
Actually, I like this (no, really I do), but I like the original work better (and yes, I did click on the link you left for my convenience, and even have it open in a separate tab just so I can toggle back and forth between the two). Perhaps, if that had been a circuit board, I would have liked this second version better. Circuit boards are much more explicit, you see.
And yes, I did see Dr. Strangelove, so I demand that my opinion count! Besides, you have no choice, mine is the only comment here. Apparently, you have a lazy bunch of readers on your hands. I hate to break it to you. I, on the other hand, am obviously the exception.
Good day. I said good day, sir!
I like the original better too although I think it was a good choice to make it just a little harder to do a side by side comparison. Both pieces stand on their own quite nicely and they are offer a rather different perspective on the same infamous character from Dr. Strangelove.
I could totally see the original as a best selling t-shirt or poster. It is simple, graphic, and dark.
